What should I wear for my appointment?

Loose fitting clothes enabling the clinician to be able to see the area where you have the problem. For instance, for lower limb complaints, such as knee, foot or ankle, a pair of shorts would be ideal. For upper limb, shoulders and neck we would advise women to wear a vest top with thin shoulder straps.
If you are a runner please bring your running trainers with you.

What will happen at my first appointment?

At your first appointment a member of our team will confirm your details for data protection. If you've received any previous treatment or imaging and you are under the care of a specialist then please bring any relevant paperwork, X-ray and scan results with you. The initial assessment involves 2 parts. Firstly, a clinician will take a subjective assessment where you will be asked questions about your symptoms and how this has impacted your life.

You will then be asked to give consent for a clinician to carry out a thorough objective assessment of the area of concern, this will involve you carrying out certain movements with the clinician observing, so that your range of movement can be assessed. We will also look at the affected area and complete clinical tests which will help us with a diagnosis.

Once a diagnosis is reached the clinician will explain this to you and go through treatment options. The amount of treatment time will depend on the complexity of the affected area. You will be given the opportunity to ask as many questions as you need to until you feel you understand your condition and treatment plan and for you to have the confidence to manage your symptoms.

Your appointment will generally last between 30 minutes to 1 hour, please allow enough time for this. Review appointments are usually 20 minutes to 45 minutes.
